For this new single, The Lone Ranger came to us saying 'I want to do something different, something more closer to a hip hop vibe, with more acting in my singing… and lots of sound effects'. After the massive gun battle with armed gangs fighting police and soldiers that took place in Kingston in may 2010, he tried to explain that he wanted to raise some awareness on today's Jamaica, where between 70-80% of fatal shootings have been linked to criminal gangs, whose firepower equals that of the police.

After Usain Bolt's heart breaking false start, which left him disqualified from the 2011 World Athletics Championships, Jamaican deejay The Lone Ranger and French producer Grant Phabao decided to record Usain Bolt The Puma, an homage song to Jamaica's greatest sprinter (and, obviously, his sponsor). The song starts on a killer chorus hook before slipping into an unstoppable flow of no less surprising verses, filled with wiki-accuracy, wicked rhymes and dynamic rub-a-dub gimmicks. The reggae groove itself is relentless, tight and bumpy, like 70s Jamaica sounding heavy.

Paris DJs are proud to announce a worldwide exclusive remix competition using the vocals of Studio One legend, one of Jamaica's most influential early dancehall DJs, The Lone Ranger. He was twice voted number 1 deejay on the island, in 1979 and 1980. He helped pioneer a newly rhythmic, on-the-beat rhyming style that led DJ toasting into the modern age, and punctuated his lyrics with bizarre exclamations and sound effects ('bim' and 'ribbit' were his favorites) that made him perhaps the most imaginative stylist of his time. Paris DJs are giving you the opportunity to remix the Lone Ranger/Grant Phabao tribute to Steve Jobs track 'The Iphone Connection', the first single from the brand new Paris DJs label, available on iTunes. The vocal acapella from the song is available to download below (the original version of the tune being available here). We want you to build your own unique track behind The Lone Ranger's amazing vocals and let his producer Grant Phabao decide who has created the best remix. Add you own beats, instrumentals, flip an old version/riddim or re-interpret the vocal below - whatever is clever, we want to hear how good you can make The Lone Ranger sound. (We're looking for original, innovative remixes here and not a re-edit so get your thinking caps on…)

The iPhone Connection song is a tribute to the co-founder and CEO of Apple who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer this summer. It was recorded at Paris DJs studios just a few days before Steve Jobs passed away. Jamaican DJ The Lone Ranger is on vocal duties with French dubmeister Grant Phabao at the controls & playing all instruments. The Lone Ranger is one of Jamaica's most influential early dancehall DJs. He was twice voted N°1 deejay on the island, in 1979 and 1980. He helped pioneer a newly rhythmic, on-the-beat rhyming style that led DJ toasting into the modern age, and punctuated his lyrics with bizarre exclamations and sound effects ("bim" and "ribbit" were his favorites) that made him perhaps the most imaginative stylist of his time. He had originally recorded The Walkman Connection way back in 1984 (on "DJ Daddy" / Techniques), now fully updated to 2011 as The Iphone Connection !

An artistic revolution has been ongoing these recent years in Paris, with some unique producers breathing new life into the idea of jazz music, upping the standards of sound and production to those of the masters - Miles Davis, Lee Perry, Fela Kuti, Sun Ra, Traffic and the such... From the message-intense material, impressionistic soundscapes and folk musings of Doctor L to the dancefloor-filling cosmic afro and soulful roots reggae vibes of Grant Phabao, the Colored-Inc. collective has managed to create a solid universe, showcasing the many facets of the jazz spectrum in the shape of a free-minded label, undoubtly this year's most ambitious one. Black Magic is their fifth experience in cooperative expression, a voodoo-themed concept album of music suitable for the dancefloor or the living room, a fresh wave of Jazz, Soul, Afro & Reggae production, untangling the scribble of the wicked world with clarity and maturity, and bringing Paris back to its rightful place, the cultural center of the world. Production duties by Doctor L and Grant Phabao

Thanks to the incredible production skills of French dubmeister Grant Phabao, who crafted for him a splendid album in 2005 (Kulchaklash / to be pronounced "Culture Clash"), and a hit single in 2006 making waves all over the irie globe, with rub-a-dub partner Carlton Livingston and their cover of Dandy Livingston's Message To You Rudie, The Lone Ranger is now back with his 12th album, Sweet Talking, and another big step towards bringing back the golden age of rub-a-dub!

Grant Phabao presents Carlton Livingston - Bridge of Life is an album resulting from various sessions recorded between 2006 and 2009 in Paris. Grant Phabao plays all instruments (with the help of keyboard wizard Soul Sugar, formerly from Seven Dub). He produced, polished and mastered himself the 11 tracks, along with three other full length albums (!), for respectively The Lone Ranger, The Silvertones and The Jays, an astounding vocal trio with former members of Black Uhuru, The Royals or The Chantells... The single Teenager In Love is as sweet as veteran rub-a-dub singer Carlton Livingston's soulful reggae can be. It's another instant classic you'll have to hunt down: pressed in Jamaica and released by T.I.M.E.C., it's only available as a 100 copies limited edition 45 - so act fast or cry later!

They all got remixed by Grant Phabao and they loved it. Some of them also produced some groovy remixes in exchange, with Jon Kennedy fooling with Grant Phabao & The Lone Ranger's "Ethiopia" and Tru Thoughts/Bastard Jazz's Mawglee electrifying their "Fever" cover.

Originally penned by DANDY LIVINGSTON in Jamaica, "(MESSAGE TO YOU) RUDIE" became the international hit single everybody knows when THE SPECIALS covered it in 1979 (with ELVIS COSTELLO producing). Now the track gets back to Jamaica with legendary Studio One deejay LONE RANGER (without whom there wouldn't be any YELLOWMAN, SHABBA RANKS or SEAN PAUL today), and his rub-a-dub partner CARLTON LIVINGSTON, who spill some hearty vocals with the usual signature gimmicks from THE LONE RANGER, the original "oink", "ribbit" and other "Tell You 'Bout It" master. Their version of "(MESSAGE TO YOU) RUDIE" is an instant classic, a smash in-your-face hit single that you can recognize as such in a few seconds. They're keeping the flavour original, on a Jamaican tempo... roots style!
